Construction has begun and the walls are going up on the City of Pembroke Pines Civic and Cultural Center located on Pines Blvd in the mid-town district.  This multi-purpose, four-story complex will include a new city hall, a 3,500 seat state-of-the-art performance/conference space, a standalone Commission Chamber, and an 11,000 square foot two-story contemporary arts center called the Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery and Exhibit Hall at City Center or “The Frank,” named after Mayor Ortis in honor of his commitment to the cultural arts.

The arts center will showcase a curated platform of exhibitions, workshops, lectures, seminars, classes and community engagement projects.  Jill Slaughter, the City’s Chief Curator and Head of Cultural Projects, will integrate the work of independent curators, museums, and traveling exhibitions to invigorate an exchange of ideas, and help make the arts accessible, approachable, and affordable for everyone.

Multi-disciplinary programming will extend to the 1-acre plaza directly in front of the art center. Featured performances will include curated cultural events, along with invitations to the public to share their talents. The entire City Center project is bound on the north by Pines Boulevard, on the east by Palm Avenue, and to the south by the Washington Street right-of-way located east of Hiatus Road. The 10-acre Pembroke Pines Civic & Cultural Center is scheduled to open late fall 2016.
